[ today we are exploring the bowling alley!! of course valdez had to check out the place with the arcade? he’s at the m*rtal k*mbat game, and will wave yamato over! there’s a ring of text circling his wrist like a bracelet that reads burning someone but we can just ignore that, leo sure is! ]
[ yamato's pretty covered, wearing even the school blazer rather than just his own clothes with the sleeves rolled up as usual. wow! i wonder what could be hidden behind that sleeve! truly, a mystery. so he very nicely sees the tattoo but looks away from it ]
Ah... sure. [ is m*rtal k*mbat appropriate in these circumstances? it doesn't matter because yamato is not actually that familiar with games, and he'll admit as much when he walks over: ] I've never played that one, though, so I probably won't be much of a challenge.
[ these old things... they are old arcade machines, but on the other hand, yamato is having futaba flashbacks, so while he steps up to the machine, he has to ask: ]
[ it also doesn't help that despite going to a place called the digital world absolutely NONE of the kids have any interest in computers, but yamato shrugs ]
Yeah. They were flip phones, though. These ones took a bit to get used to.
My phone works fine. These just take better pictures, but they're not that good. [ they can't even make calls??? ] I've been inside the Internet, don't act like I'm living in the boondocks!
[ he's used to Nerds but he's not used to having to be the one to answer them, wow ]
We open a gate using our digivice. The Digital World is connected to ours through the network already, so... [ he has to think about this as i look up pictures ] I guess there's some. You can get to areas using these transport tubes, but we have to be guided through them from the outside to find what we're looking for usually or we'd just get lose. The strings of data look mostly like gibberish to me.
[ guess what. a bitch apparently bought it, because he takes it out of his pocket to show it off!!! i'd link but im lazy and you know what it looks like ]
This. And-- usually it's Koushiro. He's kind of our strategist, I guess. He can find where they're located by the web address, so it's a lot easier to follow his directions from where we enter than try to figure it out on our own.
Huh. It doesn't look like much, but I've seen some pretty powerful machines with less to go off of. It's probably not working like it should, though, right?
It's the only way through the gate to the Digital World-- the other world connected to my own. It's also a holy device from that world, which means it can beat back darkness. And it helps makes my partner stronger.
week 1, monday

Don't worry about it. The controls on these old things can be kind of weird sometimes, so you'll still stand a chance if it shorts out me.

What year is it for you?
no subject
2009. Why?
[ i mean TECHNICALLY but it's one of those wibbly wobbly universes where time doesn't actually matter u know ]
no subject
Oh, that's not so bad. It's 2005 for me, but 2021 for Futaba-chan, so the technology difference was...
[ ... ]
A lot.
no subject
[ because rick is a cheater ]
You at least had cell phones, right?
no subject
Yeah. They were flip phones, though. These ones took a bit to get used to.

[ he will just reach over to give yamato a pat on the arm. there, there. ]
But maybe you'll be able to take the smartphones back with you when we get out of here! Then you'll be ahead of the times.

You've what now?
no subject
[ yes in retrospect that would require an explanation. yamato tilts his head a little ]
Sometimes things happen on there and we have to fight inside the Internet. So. We can transport directly to the net.
[ you could say he has... Literally... surfed the web ]
no subject
[ forget the game, yamato has his full attention now ]
How's it work? You've got to tell me. And what was it like - was it just a lot of binary, or what?

[ he is trying to picture this but? tubes? it sounds so fake ]
And who's guiding you through the tubes? You can't just map it or something?

[ he'll pocket it again with a shrug ]
I just feel better having it.
no subject
So, is that all it does? Just - lets you inside the internet?
no subject
[ he is NOT explaining evolution ]
no subject
Your partner? That someone from this Digital World of yours?
[ is it like festus he needs to know ]
no subject
[ so. yes. ]
