Well my tree was a gingko, so evergreen has nothing to do with it. [Was, he says.]
I just tend to get tired in the winter. I don't normally need to sleep much at all, but in the winter I do a lot. Maybe partly just because my father did.
[Looks anxious for a second but then just proceeds onwards!!!]
I-Yes, but I mean, when I was little it just sort of became habit to sleep when he would sleep, you know? But also I can't get a lot of energy the normal way in the winter. [So there's a biological factor independent of the environmental factor of his caretaker sleeping.]
Oh I keep falling asleep in there, actually. [Annoyed!!!]
I'm already tired and then It being warm and damp in there, well when I was really little, he'd pile up damp leaves and they'd warm up as they decomposed, and I'd sleep in there. I guess it reminds me of that. [Sounds... mulchy.]

Yeah, I noticed that too. Which is good, since I don't really think I could survive a full winter here without getting killed.

Is... that a tree thing? But even evergreens usually live through winter, don't they? Just without leaves?

"Was?"
And I thought you said your dad chose to be your family...? Or is there some biological thing in the mix there, too?
[ very quickly learning that he knows nothing about how tree spirits work ]

I guess I can’t judge. My babysitter did put me a burning fireplace for a nap once.

Wh-Why?? That's not-
[WAIT, HE'S REMEMBERING.]
Is-Was it because of your dad being a god?

Well, you'd be right there. Haven't met one yet that wasn't a total jerk.

[He thinks he's remembering that right?? That Leo's dad is a god.]
