[ thalia wasn't close to leo, not even a little. he was just jason's little, annoying friend. but still, she wanted to check on him. not only did she feel as though jason would want her too, but she knew what it was like to feel as though you'd lost best friends. ]

[ and just a little bit over an hour, thalia arrives at the fountain. albeit a bit tense. this was the first time as that she had decided to speak to leo at all. ]

[ when she spots leo, she offers him a slight smirk. one more of tension than anything else. ]

[ Leo's dug something out of his tool belt to keep his hands busy while he waits, but when Thalia appears, he shoves it back into a pocket before looking up. For once, he doesn't try to lighten the mood, or even smile. ]

[ thalia's smirk fades back into the frown that it had been before seeing leo as she shoves her hands into her pocket. ]

Jason's gone. [ but they both knew that already. ] How are you holding up?

Piper's gone, too, [ Leo reminds her. He'd already been to see Nico before coming here, and her shard sat in one of his tool belt pockets, feeling heavy as a boulder. Both of his best friends are gone, Thalia - how do you think he's holding up?

He looks away before answering, watching the water flow. He's never sure how to talk about this kind of thing, least of all with someone he barely knows, even if it is Jason's older sister. ]

No, [ he says bitterly, frowning at the fountain. ] I was too busy fighting someone else's fight. They were gone before I even got halfway back, then I got that message from Nico...

[ That hadn't been the best day he's had since waking up in the Drabwurld, he recalls. He was just grateful he had those dogs to take the frustration out on.

Biting his lip, Leo continues, ] They were both here when I got here - just like when we went to Camp Half-Blood. And now they're both gone, just like that, and all that's left are shards. What good is that?

[ It doesn't give him his friends back, that's for sure. And without them, he almost feels... lost. They've always been there with him. What's he supposed to do without them? ]
