[ As Leo talks, Nier does a light sketch on the canvas from the description and from what he remembers when the fucking thing crushed Leo under its giant paw.
He turns it?? It looks pretty similar, if not for a couple of mistakes, maybe. ]
The horns... they're more curved, like this. [ he's not going to draw it out, but like - gesture at the shape? ] And the wings - think bat wings, but made of metal.
... There's metallic paint? [ HE DOESN'T KNOW. ] Maybe I can ask Alphinaud for advice before I start the metal effect.
[ yeah. ]
You know, there aren't any dragons where I'm from... Just drawing on picture books, so seeing Festus was really something. Even if that one wasn't the real one and tried to kill you.
I mean, probably. I wouldn’t know, I’m not really an artist.
[ but the ouija boards look fine for someone with one hand i guess?? ]
That’s not surprising. They were supposedly just stories where I’m from, too, but it turns out most of them were killed or went into hiding along with everything else from the myths. Festus was the first one I actually met.
Yeah, but if they're in hiding, it means they're safe, so. Compromise! And Festus... He was struggling for a while there, but after I fixed him up, I think he was just happy to be useful again. Which, you know - relatable.
Well, they don't usually point to sunshine and rainbows. The one we were dealing with before Wiwaldi was - well, about whether we'd win against the goddess we up against, or if one of us will die, or... both.
Apparently dying at a young age isn't that uncommon for demigods like me. The prophecy is just on a slightly different scale than usual.
[ he shrugs. ]
But I'd rather die saving the world than let my friends die instead, or - whatever it is we're doing here. Not that I want to die! I really don't! But my friends all have a lot more people who need them than I do.
[ and he loves them too much to let that happen... but that's not something he can put a voice to. ]
Uh. I guess Coach Hedge is technically a guardian? [ unsure ] But it's not like he can take our place in the prophecy. But no, our parents aren't really in the picture right now.

[ He redoes the horns and the wings. ]
It won't look like metal until I paint it.
no subject
[ nods approvingly! ]
It looks good! I can't wait to see how he looks once you've painted it. Can you really do a metal effect?
no subject
[ yeah. ]

That's kind of sad, isn't it? [ At least Nier would find it sad to see things end. ] At least you met him. What is he like?
no subject

Relatable, huh. You seem like a smart kid, Leo... I'm sure you're going to do great things in the future.
[ more like die ]
no subject
That’s what people keep telling me.
no subject
Oh... Are you some kind of prodigy or genius at home?
no subject
Someone's called me a genius before, I guess, but it's more about the prophecy than anything like that.
no subject
[ He's surprised. ]

... I don't know how I feel about that.

Are they usually bad?
[ HELLO ]

That's awful, Leo.

[ Which, he also knows, makes people mad? So this all makes sense to him why Leo is kind of the way he is.
Can't believe they relate. ]
Don't you have parents—or guardians... To support you?
